What 𗥝 means
The Tangut word it writes is glossed “servant” or “slave.”
Scholars estimate its historical readings as ndu (“servant”) and duu¹ (“slave”).
Why was Tangut writing created?
It was created in 1036 for the Western Xia state.
Tangut writing served government, Buddhist translation, and cultural identity. A manuscript example probably dates to the 12th or early 13th century. It drew on Chinese and Khitan writing; the Khitan script was used by the Khitan people. Tangut was a distinct script, not a direct copy of Chinese characters.

1Why does 𗥝 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
