What 𗥸 means
It means “to cry” or “to sob.” Its scholarly reconstructed Tangut reading is written *ŋwu²; Tangut dictionaries and readings in texts support that meaning.
Tangut was made for the language of Western Xia, a medieval state in northwestern China. The script entered official use around 1036 for government writing, education, Buddhist translations, and printing. Its component-built design was influenced by Chinese writing, but readers of one script cannot read the other. It remained in use after 1227; the latest known example is dated 1502.
As of 2026, a standalone 𗥸 is best treated as historical or scholarly Tangut text, not a standard emoji reaction.
If it shows as a box, your font lacks Tangut support; the character itself is unchanged.

1Questions people ask
1Why does 𗥸 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
