What 𗦏 means
Use Tangut input for text; a Unicode picker handles one glyph.
A Tangut input method handles longer passages; a Unicode-aware character picker can insert one glyph. A regular keyboard layout does not map a key directly to 𗦏.
What does 𗦏 mean?
Its sense depends on the Tangut word and surrounding text.
Tangut writing was created around 1036 to record Tangut, the language of Western Xia (also called Xixia), a medieval kingdom in what is now northwestern China. Its writing system belonged to a distinct Tangut state beside the neighboring Song dynasty.
A Khara-Khoto manuscript, probably from the 12th or early 13th century, preserves a Tangut translation of a Chinese work whose original is unknown. An index to Gerard Clauson’s reference dictionary of Tangut links 𗦏 to a word entry and a folio, a numbered page reference; the surrounding text supplies the translation.
Why does 𗦏 show as a square?
The app may lack a Tangut-capable font.
A browser or app needs a Tangut-capable font on the receiving device. Fonts that support Tangut can draw the strokes in different styles; a square where 𗦏 should appear is a display failure, not another character.
Specialist and archival: it signals Tangut text, dictionary, or script work; most readers will need context to understand it.
