What 𗨀 means
It is a Tangut character; its label is not a translation.
The Unicode label identifies the character by its code point; it does not give a Tangut word or pronunciation. Without a gloss or surrounding Tangut text, the glyph alone does not tell you what was meant.
What was Tangut script used for?
It wrote the Tangut language for the Western Xia state.
The script was created by imperial order in 1036 during Western Xia state-building. A likely central purpose was a Tangut version of the Buddhist canon, a collection of Buddhist scriptures; it also served secular writing and marked a distinct written culture alongside Song China.
Manuscripts from Khara-Khoto probably date to the 12th or early 13th century. They include Buddhist works and translations from Chinese, including moral stories, classics, encyclopedias, military treatises, and literature. Tangut writing remained in use through 1502.
Is 𗨀 Chinese?
No; Tangut is a separate script for a different language.
Chinese influenced Tangut’s visual style and character-building principles, but that influence does not make the scripts interchangeable or reveal this character’s Tangut reading. Western Xia state-builders also followed neighboring Khitan rulers’ example of creating a native script.
