What 𗨁 means
It means “up” or “above” in Tangut. Use whichever English gloss fits the surrounding Tangut sentence.
Tangut borrowed Chinese writing practices but remained distinct
Tangut was the official language of Western Xia, which developed a writing system of its own. Its scribes drew on Chinese brush and character-building practices to write Tangut words; surviving texts include Buddhist works and translations of Chinese classics.
The documented writing period is 1036–1502, continuing after Western Xia fell. Tangut, Khitan, and Jurchen were distinct writing traditions used by historical states and shaped in relation to Chinese writing. Tangut components help build and index characters, but sharing a component does not automatically mean sharing meaning.
Historical and specialist; it belongs in Tangut texts, scholarship, or a clearly labeled discussion of the script.
Chinese influence does not make 𗨁 a Chinese character.
