What 𗩜 means
A Tangut dictionary glosses 𗩜 as “to cure.” The index to Clauson's Tangut dictionary lists it as L3611; the dictionary’s English definitions give this gloss.
When and why was Tangut script created?
It was created to serve Tangut state and culture. Emperor Li Yuanhao ordered the script, promulgated in 1036, as part of state-building and to create a Tangut Buddhist canon—a collection of Buddhist scriptures. Its designers followed earlier Khitan scripts and drew on Chinese writing’s visual style and character-making principles, but Tangut remained a distinct script for a different language.
Texts in Tangut include Buddhist works and translations of Chinese books. A manuscript fragment found at Khara-Khoto, in Inner Mongolia, is undated and probably dates from the 12th or early 13th century; Tangut writing is attested as late as 1502.
How do I type 𗩜?
Use an input method that supports Tangut. For repeated typing, RIME—a configurable input-method system—has Tangut dictionaries with dictionary-number/four-corner, component, Xuanpin, or Tangut Cangjie schemes. A Tangut-capable font is also needed to display the character.
