Western Xia (Xixia), a Tangut-led kingdom, created the Tangut script about 1036 under its first emperor to write the Tangut language and serve official and cultural life. Tangut signs resemble Chinese characters, but the scripts are unrelated. Tangut texts include official, private, and religious works. After the Mongol conquest, writing continued during the Yuan and Ming periods; the script became obsolete by the Ming's end and was rediscovered in the late 19th century.
A Tangut pronunciation reconstruction from 1968 gives a sound close to English “see.” Tangut scholar Andrew West’s 2024 article reports 𗩿 at the start of eight Tangut family names. If it arrives alone, ask for the full name or passage.

1Why does 𗩿 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
