What 𗪂 means
It means “mother’s brother.”
A Tangut–Chinese dictionary gives this gloss. A scholarly reconstruction transcribes the reading as ¹ko₄; raised and lowered numbers are notation marks.
Li Yuanhao ordered the Tangut script created in 1036 to support a Buddhist canon and distinguish Western Xia from Song China. It borrowed Chinese design principles without deriving from Chinese. Tangut writing carried Buddhist books, Chinese translations, and secular works. Tangut followed the Khitans, who had created two state scripts about a century earlier. A 1132 preface to the Tangut sound dictionary Homophones describes new characters and corrected forms.
