Tangut Character 17B23

2852/6136

𗬣 is a Tangut character; Unicode labels it by number, not meaning. In 1036, Li Yuanhao ordered Tangut writing to create Tangut versions of Buddhist sacred texts and distinguish the state from Song China. It served official and secular texts; its design drew on Chinese models and may reflect neighboring Khitan writing. The earliest known Tangut document dates to 1072; a 1502 inscription shows use after the 1227 Mongol conquest.

What 𗬣 means

A Tangut word or passage is needed to interpret it. If someone sends it alone, ask for its source context before treating it as a reaction.

When the active font lacks Tangut support, 𗬣 may show as an empty square; that square is a placeholder, not part of the character.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𗬣 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
