What 𗭊 means
Tangut references classify 𗭊 as an auxiliary word. That means it performs a grammatical job within a sentence; its exact contribution comes from the surrounding Tangut words.
The Tangut script was established in 1036 under Western Xia ruler Li Yuanhao for government, Buddhist texts and a distinct state identity. An earlier Khitan state provided a precedent for a separate state script; Tangut writing drew on Chinese character writing but remained its own system.
At Khara-Khoto, an important Tangut manuscript site, the earliest reported woodblock print, made from a carved wooden block, dates to 1084. Surviving manuscripts include material from the 12th or early 13th century, including law codes, letters and Chinese translations.
Historical and specialist: 𗭊 marks Tangut text, and its grammatical role belongs to the sentence around it.
