tangut ideograph-17be2

Tangut Ideograph 17BE2

3043/6136

𗯢 is a Tangut character; its Unicode name is just a code-point label, not a translation of its meaning. Chinese writing influenced the Tangut script, created under Western Xia ruler Li Yuanhao in 1036 as part of building the state. It later carried Buddhist texts and translations from Chinese; a Khara-Khoto manuscript probably dates to the 12th or early 13th century, and Tangut printing continued after the Western Xia fell in 1227.

Why does 𗯢 show as a box on some devices?

Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
