What 𗰚 means
The Tangut gloss for 𗰚 is “circle.” Li Fanwen’s 2008 dictionary indexes it under that gloss; it is a Tangut word, not a drawing of a circle.
Chinese writing was the main model for Tangut script, but Tangut is a separate writing system. That background explains the square, Chinese-like appearance without making this a Chinese reading.
Why did Western Xia develop Tangut writing?
Western Xia developed Tangut writing for government and literature.
Accounts differ on whether Emperor Yuanhao or his father Deming initiated the project; Yeli Renrong is associated with developing the system. Western Xia made Tangut its official script in 1036. The earliest securely dated surviving document—a record of a trial at Guazhou—is dated 1069 or 1070; undated texts may be older.
Tangut writing served administration and Buddhist scriptures, then appeared in laws, translations of Chinese classics, military works and literature. Khitan influence is possible, though Chinese was the main model. After Western Xia fell, Tangut continued in Yuan and Ming settings; a dated inscription from 1502 is the latest known witness.
Historical and specialist; it fits Tangut study, preservation or font testing, not casual reaction messages.
Its square shape can look Chinese, but it belongs to the separate Tangut script.
