What 𗰛 means
A Tangut dictionary glosses it as “cross,” “pass over,” and “surpass.” These are related verb senses, not unrelated readings.
The Tangut script was created under the first emperor of the Western Xia state about 1036 CE to write the Tangut language in official, legal, and religious texts. Its forms were modeled on Chinese characters and the writing used by the Khitan people, but Tangut is a distinct script; it continued in use through the Yuan and Ming dynasties and had fallen out of use by the end of the Ming.
