What 𗱋 means
𗱋 is a Tangut character, not a Chinese character. Unicode builds Tangut labels from code points; “17C4B” identifies the encoded character, not the word or its pronunciation.
Western Xia (Xixia) established Tangut writing in 1036 to record its language, support state-building, and translate Buddhist scriptures. The earliest surviving dated Tangut text is an official record from 1072. Chinese writing influenced Tangut’s visual and structural design; neighboring Khitan states had created scripts about a century earlier, providing a precedent for state writing. After Western Xia fell, Tangut remained in use under Yuan and Ming rule and in Buddhist inscriptions.
Why does 𗱋 show as a blank box?
Your font may lack Tangut coverage. If the glyph appears as an empty square, choose a font with Tangut support, such as Tangut Yinchuan.
Questions people ask
1Why does 𗱋 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
