What 𗱊 means
A dictionary entry or identified passage is needed to read it. Its Unicode label is made from the number assigned to the character; it is not a translation or pronunciation. Tangut writing recorded the now-extinct Tangut language; its characters could represent words or parts of words. To know the word or sound for this exact sign, use a Tangut dictionary or a passage that identifies it; appearance alone is not enough.
For Tangut script history, creation is placed around 1036–1037, when the script was developed for the language of the Western Xia state. Its design drew on Chinese and Khitan writing traditions; Khitan was another language with its own writing systems. Tangut was taught in state schools and used in government and legal records, diplomatic documents in two languages, Buddhist translations, and other books. The script remained in use after Western Xia fell in 1227; one later inscription is dated 1502.
Historical and specialist: this sign belongs in Tangut-language texts, scholarship, and typography.
Is 𗱊 a Chinese character? No: it is Tangut; its Chinese-like shape does not give it a Mandarin reading.
Questions people ask
2Why does 𗱊 show as a box?
Your selected fonts may lack Tangut coverage. As of 2026, browsers need a web or system font with the glyph; otherwise they may show a fallback box. An installed font helps local apps; a web font works only on pages that load it.
Can different Tangut fonts draw 𗱊 differently?
Yes. Different font designs can draw the same encoded character differently, and a revised font may refine its shape while retaining the same character. Check the font version or source before treating the visual difference as a different sign.
