What 𗱼 means
A Tangut-Chinese dictionary glosses it as “hole.”
Western Xia’s court established Tangut writing in 1036–1038 to record the Tangut language and mark the state’s distinct culture. Scholars drew on Chinese character-making methods to create a separate script. It appears in government records, contracts, and Buddhist and Confucian books. After the state fell in 1227, Buddhist texts were still printed under Yuan rule.
