What 𗳐 means
A Tangut character with a reconstructed reading, but no settled word gloss.
The catalogue lists it as L0892; a reconstruction writes its reading as rar. This Latin-letter notation records a proposed reading, not a translation; by itself, the glyph does not show which word or phrase it represented.
Tangut writing was created in the Western Xia state around 1036–1037. Scholarship identifies an official document dated 1072 as the earliest transmitted Tangut document.
Why was Tangut script created?
To write Tangut and give Western Xia a distinct state script.
Western Xia used it for official records, Buddhist scriptures, and translations of Chinese and Tibetan works. Its characters borrowed Chinese character-building principles while writing the Tangut language, helping distinguish the state's written tradition from that of Song China.
Tangut writing continued in religious and other texts during the Yuan and Ming periods, after Western Xia fell, before becoming obsolete.
Historical and scholarly; alone in a message, it reads as a Tangut character sample or historical reference.
