What 𗳙 means
Tangut dictionaries gloss 𗳙 as “father.” Scholars reconstruct its Tangut pronunciation as *ka¹, roughly “kah”; the asterisk marks an inferred form. Wénhǎi, a Tangut dictionary whose title means “Sea of Writing,” records it.
The Tangut script was created under Western Xia’s first emperor, ruler of a Tangut kingdom, around 1036 to write the Tangut language. It served official, private, and religious writing, including Buddhist sutras, books, inscriptions, and manuscripts.
Historical and scholarly: this character belongs in discussion of the Tangut language, texts, or script.
