What 𗴊 means
The best direct gloss is “to shrink.”
The 2008 English index to Li Fanwen's Tangut dictionary places it under entry 0759, glossed “to shrink.” That is a brief dictionary equivalent, not a full translation for every sentence; surrounding text can refine it.
Is 𗴊 Chinese or Tangut?
𗴊 is Tangut, a distinct script.
Emperor Li Yuanhao commissioned the Tangut script in 1036 for the Western Xia state and a Buddhist canon. It served government writing as well as Buddhist scriptures, including translations from Chinese and Tibetan.
Tangut drew on Chinese writing principles and was used in the same region as Khitan scripts. After Western Xia fell in 1227, Tangut continued for centuries in religious texts. The latest known physical examples are a pair of dhāraṇī pillars—stone monuments bearing Buddhist formulas—erected in 1502.
Historical and scholarly; suited to Tangut texts or deliberate display of the script.
Read it as Tangut; its shape alone does not give it a Chinese meaning.
