What 𗴔 means
Its reconstructed reading is la, not a standalone gloss.
Tangut dictionaries index 𗴔 as L3417, entry 3417 in the Li Fanwen index. They give la as its reading: a scholarly reconstruction written as one syllable, not a word with a separate meaning you can translate alone.
The Tangut script, also called Xixia writing, entered official use in 1036 under Li Yuanhao, ruler of the Tangut-led Western Xia state. It supported Buddhist scripture translation and a distinct state writing identity alongside Song China. Later texts include scriptures, Chinese translations, primers, military works, and literature; inscriptions show the script continued after the state ended. Tangut borrowed Chinese-style strokes and ways of combining character parts, a script-level influence that does not make 𗴔 Chinese or reveal its reading.
How do I type 𗴔?
Use a Tangut input method for repeated entry.
RIME is a customizable input-method framework. With a Tangut dictionary, documented choices include XHZD Four-Corner, Tangut Radicals, Xuanpin, and Tangut Cangjie; these schemes are specific to Tangut, so an ordinary Chinese keyboard is unreliable.
As of 2026, Tangut IME Online warns that pasted Tangut may fail to render in some mobile apps. If the glyph appears as a box, a Tangut font such as Noto Serif Tangut may fix the display; font support changes how the same text appears, not its character identity.
Specialist and historical: it points to Tangut writing rather than serving as a general-purpose reaction.
Chinese-style strokes do not make it readable as Chinese.

Questions people ask
1why does 𗴔 show as a box?
Usually a font-coverage problem. The app may not be able to draw Tangut with its current fonts; a Tangut-capable font may restore the glyph without changing the underlying text.
