tangut ideograph-17d19

Tangut Character 17D19

3354/6136

𗴙 is a Tangut (Xixia) character, from a script made for the Tangut language under Western Xia rule around 1036 CE. That script served official, private and Buddhist texts; after Western Xia fell in 1227, it survived under Yuan and Ming rule and became obsolete by Ming's end. Tangut characters can resemble Chinese, but they write a different language. Unicode's number-based label identifies this glyph, not the word it writes.

Why does 𗴙 show as a box on some devices?

Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
