What 𗷿 means
The Unicode label points to an entry, not a translation.
Unicode 17.0.0 lists L2008-1803, Li Fanwen's Tangut-Chinese dictionary reference; it gives no translation or reading.
Tangut is distinct from Chinese writing, though Chinese writing inspired its design.
How did Tangut writing begin?
It began in 1036 under Western Xia emperor Li Yuanhao.
He ordered it for state-building and Buddhist scripture; the neighboring Khitans had already created their own state scripts.
Tangut drew on Chinese design but was not derived from it; Chinese texts were translated into Tangut. Use continued after Western Xia fell in 1227; latest evidence dates to 1502.
