Text symbol

What 𗸣 means

By sound, not meaning. Middle Chinese is an older form of Chinese; both characters’ readings are reconstructed as *tok. The Tangut reading of 𗸣 is *tə¹, roughly t plus a short neutral vowel; ¹ marks tone.

The Western Xia state created the Tangut script around 1036 for state and cultural writing. 𗸣 appears in the 12th-century dictionaries Sea of Writing and Homophones. Tangut writing continued after Western Xia fell, with records through 1502.

Historical, scholarly, and neutral.

In Chinese text, do not substitute 德 or 得 for 𗸣.
