What 𗻕 means
It means “peak” or “summit” in Tangut.
Tangut dictionaries record the entry as L2008-2170 and gloss it with 峰, the Chinese character for “peak.” Scholars reconstruct its reading in scholarly Latin notation as *śia̱².
Why does 𗻕 look like Chinese?
It uses a character design familiar from Chinese writing, but belongs to Tangut.
The Tangut script was created under Western Xia’s first emperor around 1036 to write the Tangut language. Its designers drew on the prestige and block-based organization of Chinese writing while creating a distinct system for their state.
Tangut writing appears in official records, private documents, and religious texts. It remained in use through the Yuan and Ming dynasties and was rediscovered in the late 19th century.
How can I type or display 𗻕?
Use a Tangut input method and a font with Tangut coverage.
There is no universal everyday keyboard layout for Tangut. Specialist input methods offer phonetic, stroke, or four-corner mappings; Rime Xunpin and BabelPad are examples.
An empty square means your font lacks Tangut coverage. Choose a Tangut-capable font, such as Noto Serif Tangut or Tangut Yinchuan, where your software lets you select fonts.
Historical and specialist; use the Tangut dictionary gloss rather than guessing from its Chinese-like shape.
Its Chinese-like form does not make it a Chinese character.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𗻕 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
