What 𗾜 means
It writes the Tangut word for “cheese.”
Tangut was the language of the Western Xia state; the state ordered its script into use in 1036 for government and Buddhist translation. It drew on Chinese and Khitan traditions but cannot be read as Chinese.
Manuscripts from Khara-Khoto, a ruined site, probably date to the 12th or early 13th century. They show later Tangut writing, not when 𗾜 first appeared.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𗾜 show as a box?
It may. A font without Tangut support can show a box. Fonts also vary in how they draw the script; a missing glyph does not change the underlying text character.
