Tangut character 17FAA

4011/6136

𗾪 means “wisdom” in Tangut. Tangut writing served the Tangut language in the Western Xia state (1038–1227) in northwestern China, including practical and Buddhist texts. Font support affects whether the character appears and which outline you see.

What 𗾪 means

Unicode 13.0 revised its left-hand component. The updated drawing uses joined-stroke Component 766; earlier Unicode glyph data showed the similar unjoined Component 267. Component numbers identify visual parts of a character, not its meaning. A font without Tangut coverage may show a box.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𗾪 show as a box on some devices?

Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
