𘤊 is a Tangut radical for analyzing characters, not a standalone word. One dictionary links it to “waist” and “bird” characters.

Text symbol

What 𘤊 means

It links full Tangut characters rather than carrying its own reading.

“Radical” here means a component used to analyze Tangut characters; it has no fixed meaning or sound. The mid-12th-century Tangut dictionary Sea of Characters links it to “waist” and “bird” characters.

Tangut writing began around 1036 in Western Xia, a Tangut kingdom, for state administration and translation of Buddhist and Chinese texts. It drew on Chinese writing and developed alongside Khitan traditions, but remained distinct. A Khara-Khoto manuscript, from a ruined city, probably dates to the 12th or early 13th century; Tangut Buddhist printing continued in the Yuan era.

Scholarly.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𘤊 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
