What 𗿄 means

It is glossed “to request.”

Tangut writing was used in the Western Xia state, called Xixia in Chinese. Its square forms drew on Chinese and Khitan writing, but they record the separate Tangut language.

How did Tangut writing become a state script?

The Western Xia court made it a state writing system.

Accounts date its introduction to 1036–1037. One ties the order to Emperor Li Yuanhao; another credits the scholar Teacher Iri with devising it in 1037. They differ on the exact year and attribution.

The court backed a Tangut Buddhist canon, a collection of Buddhist scriptures. The same writing also carried law codes, military treatises, translated Chinese works, classic writings of Confucian thought, and literature. A manuscript from Khara-khoto probably dates to the 12th or early 13th century; the latest known Tangut inscription is dated 1502.

How can I type 𗿄?

Use a supplementary-Unicode input method or an HTML reference.

Is Tangut the same as Chinese?

No. Tangut is a separate language and script. Tangut writing was influenced by Chinese forms, but it does not write Chinese.

Why does 𗿄 show as a box?

Your font or app likely lacks Tangut coverage. A font that supports Tangut can render it; the box does not change the character stored in the text.
