What 𘁅 means

Its scholarly readings reconstruct sound; they do not translate it.

Different scholarly systems reconstruct how it sounded, so the recorded forms are proposals about its pronunciation.

Why was Tangut writing created?

Western Xia, the Tangut state, created it for government around 1036.

Government schools taught Tangut writing, officials used it in documents, and Buddhist translations carried it into religious books.

After Western Xia fell in 1227, Tangut writing continued; the latest known Tangut text is dated 1502.

Is 𘁅 Chinese or Tangut?

It is Tangut, written in a script distinct from Chinese.

Tangut writing was influenced by Chinese, but it has its own character system; a Chinese reading cannot be inferred from this character’s shape.

Historical Tangut texts preserve variant glyph forms; a change in shape alone does not establish a different character.

Why does 𘁅 show as a box on some devices?

Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
