What 𘁙 means
Its Unicode label does not tell you the Tangut word. 𘁙 belongs to the Tangut writing system associated with the historical Western Xia state; “Tangut ideograph-18059” is an inventory label, not a translation.
A reliable reading comes from a Tangut dictionary and the surrounding word or sentence. The glyph alone cannot tell you whether the word names an object, action, quality, or grammatical idea.
What does 𘁙 mean in a message?
Treat it as a text sample or font check unless context says more. If someone sends only 𘁙, ask whether they are quoting Tangut, checking font coverage, or showing a historical character; the glyph alone gives no reliable clue to their mood.
In a Tangut quotation, the surrounding word supplies context. If you do not know the script, ask the sender for a transliteration or gloss.
Why was Tangut writing created?
It served Western Xia state-building and Buddhist translation. In 1036, the Tangut ruler Li Yuanhao established the script to support Buddhist scripture translation and distinguish his state from Song China. Tangut writing drew on Chinese writing principles without deriving from Chinese characters; its makers also followed earlier Khitan script projects, created by a separate people with their own script.
Tangut books included Buddhist texts, translations of Confucian classics, encyclopedias, military works, literature, primers, and medical texts. A manuscript found at Khara-khoto probably dates to the 12th or early 13th century and contains a translated historical text. Tangut writing remained in Buddhist liturgical use into the Ming dynasty.
Historical and specialist: clear in Tangut text, opaque as a standalone chat glyph.
Its inventory label and shape are not a translation.

Questions people ask
2Why does 𘁙 show as a box?
The selected font likely lacks Tangut coverage. The text can contain the character even when that font shows a box; switch to a Tangut-capable font to display the glyph.
Is 𘁙 a Chinese character?
No. It belongs to Tangut, a separate script developed for the Western Xia state. Its design drew on Chinese writing principles and earlier Khitan script projects, but 𘁙 itself is a Tangut character.

𘁙\18059Why is 𘁙 a box on my screen?
fsymbols draws rare signs with its own fonts, so they show here even where your device has none. An app or website without such a font shows an empty box (□) or a question mark instead. Turn our fonts off to see each sign as your device draws it by itself: a box here means a box in your chats and documents too.
