What 𘁳 means
A dictionary gloss is a clue, not a full translation.
Li Fanwen’s Tangut–Chinese dictionary indexes this character under “frivolous.” A 2015 analysis of a Tangut wordbook also records “respectful,” so the sentence around it matters for a fuller reading.
Why does 𘁳 look Chinese?
Tangut uses Chinese-style forms but writes a different language.
The Tangut script was modeled on the regular style of Chinese characters, but Tangut characters cannot be read as Chinese. It served the Western Xia kingdom in state documents, Buddhist translations, and other writing. Tangut remained in use after the kingdom fell; surviving texts later became material for historical study.
Tangut specialists can use dictionaries to identify it; other readers need context to interpret its historical glosses.

1Why does 𘁳 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
