What 𘆧 means
Scholars gloss it as “new” in Tangut.
A gloss is a short translation. Since Tangut is no longer spoken, scholars reconstruct its reading; śieu is the scholarly transcription of that inferred historical reading.
The Tangut script was ordered for Western Xia state use around 1036. It uses character-like forms influenced by Chinese writing, but represents the separate Tangut language. Buddhist and secular texts show the script in religious and government life. Today, this glyph is studied and used in historical editions.
Is 𘆧 a Chinese character?
No. It is Tangut; Chinese writing influenced its visual style.
Chinese characters helped shape the design of Tangut signs, but Tangut is a separate script for a different language. Their character-like appearance does not make the writing systems mutually readable.
It reads as scholarly and historical: using it suggests an interest in Tangut writing.
The gloss “new” is not a modern-message convention; explain it in words if the meaning matters.
