What 𘇇 means
It names the large animal with a trunk.
Tangut dictionaries gloss 𘇇 as “elephant.” A scholarly reconstruction gives its historical pronunciation as mbi̯u; this is an inferred sound, not an English translation.
Is 𘇇 a Chinese character?
No; it writes Tangut in a Chinese-inspired script.
The Xixia (Western Xia) court established the script in 1036–37 for state records and translated works. The earliest surviving specimen is an official document from 1072.
Tangut writing carried Buddhist and secular books, and Buddhist texts in it survive from after the state fell in 1227.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘇇 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.

𘇇\181C7Why is 𘇇 a box on my screen?
fsymbols draws rare signs with its own fonts, so they show here even where your device has none. An app or website without such a font shows an empty box (□) or a question mark instead. Turn our fonts off to see each sign as your device draws it by itself: a box here means a box in your chats and documents too.
