What 𘉎 means
The Tangut index assigns it the gloss “super.” An English index to Li Fanwen's 2008 Tangut dictionary places 𘉎 at entry 1022 under that gloss.
Around 1036, Western Xia ruler Li Yuanhao had Tangut writing developed for state use and a planned collection of Buddhist scriptures in Tangut. A fragment from the ruins of Khara-khoto, an abandoned city, probably dates to the 12th or early 13th century and comes from a translated secular work.
Tangut writing later carried government documents, Buddhist scriptures, and Chinese works, including Confucian classics, military treatises, encyclopedias, and literature. It remained in use through the Yuan and Ming dynasties, then fell out of use by the end of the Ming dynasty. Tangut signs drew on Chinese visual and compositional ideas. The Khitan, another historical people, had earlier created a separate script, a model Tangut leaders followed. Tangut nevertheless remained distinct from Chinese writing.
