What 𘉙 means
A Tangut dictionary glosses it “scheme.”
Li Fanwen’s Tangut dictionary reconstructs its reading as *thjij². Western Xia developed the script under its first emperor around 1036 for official and private writing, law, inscriptions, and Buddhist translations. It survived the state and became obsolete by the end of the Ming dynasty.
Why does 𘉙 look Chinese?
It is Tangut, a separate script with Chinese-style forms.
It writes Tangut, not Chinese. Older books set vertical columns right to left; modern scholarship usually writes left to right.
