What 𘌆 means
A Tangut word for “pod,” the case around seeds.
The Tangut writing system was inspired by Chinese forms, but it is a separate script; this glyph is not a Chinese character.
The Tangut state commissioned the script in 1036. A Tangut collection of Buddhist scriptures was likely a main aim; a distinct political identity was another. The court also followed its Khitan neighbors, who had created two state scripts about a century earlier. Surviving books include Buddhist works and translations of Chinese classics, military texts, encyclopedias, and literature.
