What 𘌅 means
𘌅 means “wide” or “broad” in Tangut. Tangut is both the name of a historical language and its writing system. Dictionaries list this word as an adjective; reconstructions spell its sound differently, so the meaning is more certain than a reading written in Latin letters.
The script was devised around 1036 under imperial decree for the Western Xia Empire’s official and cultural work. The empire lasted 1038–1227; surviving books and inscriptions include translations of Chinese and Tibetan Buddhist works.
Is 𘌅 a Chinese character?
No. It belongs to the Tangut script. Tangut writing was designed under Chinese influence and uses a similar square format, but it is a separate writing system. Resemblance alone does not establish that this character descends directly from Chinese or Khitan characters.
After the Mongol conquest, Tangut continued to appear in some texts from the Yuan dynasty. The language later fell out of everyday use. Bilingual texts and specialist dictionaries help reconstruct how Tangut characters were read.
What does it mean when someone sends 𘌅?
One character gives too little context to know why it was sent. A dictionary gloss tells you what the Tangut word means, not what the sender intends. Read it as a reference to Tangut text unless the surrounding message makes another purpose clear.
Scholarly in tone; it fits discussion of Tangut language, writing, or historical texts.
Its Chinese-influenced shape does not make it Chinese; it is Tangut.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘌅 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
