tangut ideograph-183bf

Tangut Character

5056/6136

𘎿 is a Tangut character in the Tangut script, used to write the Tangut language in Western Xia. Introduced in 1036 for state-building and Buddhist translation, the script adapted Chinese character-making ideas and followed scripts used earlier by neighboring Khitan people. Tangut texts included Buddhist works translated from Chinese and Tibetan; Buddhist printing continued after Western Xia fell in 1227. The Unicode label is an identifier, not a translation.

Questions people ask

Why does 𘎿 show as a box on some devices?

Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
