What 𘐻 means

Use a Tangut input method with a loaded character dictionary.

One documented Tangut input method loads a dictionary, lets you enter a code to filter candidates, then select a character with a letter, number, or click. This is a specialist workflow, not a normal keyboard shortcut.

Input and display are separate: even if entered correctly, the character may appear as an empty box or replacement mark in an app or browser without a Tangut-capable font. A browser web font can fix that browser without changing other apps.

What does 𘐻 mean?

A Tangut lexicon records a reconstructed reading, not an English translation. The spelling rjijr² is scholarly notation for the sound scholars reconstruct for this character.

𘐻 belongs to Tangut, also called Xixia, the writing system for the now-extinct Tangut language of northwestern China. Tangut writing was used from the 11th to 16th centuries.

The first Western Xia emperor had it created about 1036. The script served practical and political goals: it carried Buddhist texts in Tangut, government records, and translations of Chinese, Tibetan and other works, while giving Western Xia a written identity distinct from the Song dynasty, then ruling China. After the Mongol conquest, Tangut writing continued through the Yuan and Ming periods but became obsolete by the end of the Ming. Scholars rediscovered it in the late 19th century. It drew on Chinese and neighboring Khitan writing but remained its own script, not a descendant of Chinese.
