What 𘑖 means
Its Tangut–Chinese dictionary gloss is “to drill.”
Li Fanwen’s Tangut–Chinese dictionary records this gloss. Tangut is the writing system used by the Western Xia state, which commissioned it around 1036. It served official records, translations, and Buddhist books printed from carved wooden blocks. Tangut writing continued after the state fell; the last known written example is dated 1502.
