What does 𘒫 mean?
It means “to send” or “to dispatch” in Tangut.
A Tangut Buddhist source pairs it with the Chinese written gloss 遣 (a short translation), meaning “send” or “dispatch”; scholars transcribe its reconstructed reading as ze̱w².
Why was Tangut writing created?
It served Western Xia state-building and a Buddhist canon.
The Western Xia emperor Li Yuanhao ordered Tangut writing in 1036. The project aimed to create a Tangut Buddhist canon (a collection of scriptures) and establish an identity distinct from Song China. It followed state scripts used by the neighboring Khitan people and drew on Chinese writing’s visual structure and character-building without simply copying Chinese characters.
After Western Xia fell in 1227, Tangut texts continued under Mongol rule in Buddhist and other settings. The latest known datable Tangut materials are a pair of stone pillars from 1502 bearing dhāraṇī, short Buddhist sacred formulas.
Historical and specialist: it points to Tangut-language writing or literature.
Watch 𘒮: its reconstructed reading matches, but its meaning is different.

2Why does 𘒫 show as a box?
A missing Tangut font is the likely cause. Unicode identifies the character, but an installed font also needs its outline to display it.
Can Chinese readers read 𘒫?
Not automatically. Tangut writes a different language, though its character design drew on Chinese models. The Chinese gloss 遣 translates the word; it does not give the Tangut reading.
