What 𘓼 means
The dictionary gloss is “fire.”
Li Fanwen’s dictionary of Tangut and Chinese indexes it as L2008-4555; Unicode’s algorithmic name identifies the code point rather than translating the word.
The Western Xia, a medieval state in northwestern China, commissioned Tangut script in 1036 for government, Buddhist texts, classics, and state identity. The script was deliberately created, inspired by Chinese writing but not derived from it. Khitan neighbors had made two scripts about a century earlier, one largely based on Chinese; they are separate traditions, not forms of 𘓼. A Tangut manuscript from Khara-khoto in Inner Mongolia probably dates to the 12th or early 13th century. Tangut Buddhist printing is attested in 1247 and a multilingual Buddhist inscription in 1345.
