What 𘖼 means
A Tangut dictionary glosses it as “a surname.”
Created around 1036 under Western Xia’s first emperor, Tangut wrote the Tangut language in official, private, and Buddhist texts. Its use continued under the Yuan and Ming dynasties after Western Xia fell. As of 2026, the latest datable Tangut materials known are two Buddhist inscriptions on stone pillars from 1502. It is separate from Chinese writing, though its characters can look similar.
