Tangut Character 1862A

5675/6136

𘘪 is a Tangut character glossed “to get” in Li Fanwen’s dictionary. Tangut, now extinct, was the language of Western Xia, a state in northwestern China; its script drew on Chinese and Khitan models and wrote government records, laws, and Buddhist texts. Later Buddhist inscriptions show the writing outlived the state.

What 𘘪 means

“To get” is the Tangut dictionary gloss. Li Fanwen’s entry is L2008-1325; Unicode’s name labels the character. Tangut is a distinct language, not Chinese.

Tangut writing emerged in the 11th century. After Western Xia fell, Buddhist pillars inscribed in Tangut were erected in 1502.
