What 𘙩 means
In Tangut, its dictionary gloss is “to cry.” A Tangut-Chinese index gives the scholarly reading as tśhji (also tshji); these are specialist romanized transcriptions, not everyday pronunciation guides.
Surviving Tangut writing begins in the 11th century. Western Xia, in what is now northwestern China, used the script for the Tangut language and state identity. Its texts include Buddhist translations, law codes, and contracts; inscriptions survive through 1502.
Tangut script drew on Chinese and Khitan traditions, but 𘙩 is Tangut, not Chinese. The gloss names a written word, not an emoji for crying.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘙩 show as a box?
It means the font cannot display this Tangut character. A font with Tangut coverage can render it; the box is a display placeholder, not another character.
