What 𘙪 means
Its dictionary gloss is a fish term, not a species.
Li Fanwen’s Tangut–Chinese dictionary pairs it with 鮭. That Chinese character has several fish senses, so the gloss alone doesn’t identify one species.
Is 𘙪 a Chinese character?
No; it belongs to a separate script.
Created in 1036 under Western Xia ruler Li Yuanhao, Tangut served state-building and writing Buddhist scriptures. Chinese writing inspired its design; neighboring Khitan scripts set a precedent.
Tangut texts included official records and Chinese classics in translation. After the Mongol conquest, Tangut remained in use under Yuan and Ming rule, becoming obsolete by the end of the Ming dynasty.
