Text symbol

What 𘚐 means

It is Tangut writing; the label is not a translation. Xixiawen is the writing system for Tangut, the language of Western Xia. Unicode's numbered label identifies 𘚐 but gives no reading or meaning.

Why did Western Xia create Tangut writing?

To record Tangut in a state script. Li Yuanhao ordered the script around 1036; a 1072 official document is its earliest surviving example. It borrowed structural ideas from Chinese writing but records Tangut. After the fall in 1227, the script continued in Buddhist works under the Mongol Yuan dynasty; pillar inscriptions dated 1502 are among its latest remains.
