What 𘜀 means
A Tangut dictionary glosses it as “strong.” Entry 0611 links 𘜀 to that meaning. It represents a word in the Tangut language, written in a script distinct from Han Chinese characters. Its Unicode name is generated from its code point; it identifies the character but does not translate it.
Why was the Tangut script created?
Western Xia rulers established Tangut writing around 1036–1037 as an official script for the Tangut language and a marker of cultural identity. The earliest surviving example is a 1072 official document sent to a military inspector.
After the Western Xia state fell in 1227, Tangut continued in Buddhist and other texts; a 1502 inscription records later use. Whether neighboring Khitan scripts influenced Tangut is debated: some scholarship proposes influence, while other analysis finds no close structural relationship.
Historical and specialized; it fits Tangut study, transcription, or historical typography.
It belongs to Tangut writing; a Han Chinese reading is not a substitute.
