What 𘛿 means
A Tangut dictionary translates 𘛿 as “body.” It is a word sign, not a drawing of a body. The Tangut script is also called Xixia writing.
Why does 𘛿 look Chinese?
Tangut writing drew visual ideas from Chinese but remained a separate script.
Western Xia authorities developed the script as part of state-building; one aim was a Tangut version of the Buddhist canon, the collection of Buddhist scriptures. Neighboring Khitan scripts offered an earlier model. Surviving works also include translated Confucian classics, encyclopedias, military treatises, and literature.
Historical and specialist: this character belongs in Tangut-language writing or in a reference to Tangut texts.
As of 2026, a browser or app without Tangut font coverage can show 𘛿 as a box; the character's text value stays the same.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘛿 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
