What 𘞘 means
Use a Tangut-aware input method; ordinary keyboards have no dedicated key.
As of 2026, a Tangut web input tool offers dictionary lookup, handwriting, and code entry; code entry depends on the dictionary file loaded into the tool.
If the glyph appears as a blank box, the receiving app or font may lack Tangut coverage; the text can still be intact. Different Tangut fonts may draw the same character in different styles.
What does 𘞘 mean?
It is the Tangut character for “knife.”
Tangut dictionaries gloss 𘞘 as “knife.” The reconstructed reading is written bjɨr: a scholarly proposal for how the historical Tangut word sounded, not a Chinese reading or a code to type.
Tangut is the writing system of the Tangut language, used by the Western Xia (Xixia) state. Traditional accounts date its state-backed creation to 1036. Its visual and structural design was influenced by Chinese writing and also drew on Khitan script traditions, another writing tradition of the region. Tangut manuscripts from Khara-Khoto, a ruined settlement, date to the 12th or early 13th century; a late surviving example is dated 1502.
What if someone sends 𘞘?
Treat it as a Tangut word or a script specimen.
If it arrives alone, ask whether the sender means the word or is showing Tangut writing; the glyph by itself cannot settle that.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘞘 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
